Dear Horned Frogs Families,

I am pleased to announce that 2017-18 will be the Chicago Horned Frogs Youth Hockey Club’s inaugural season. The Chicago-based Morgan Park Sports Center will serve as the primary facility for all team practices, skill sessions, and home games.

As the figurehead of this program I want to foster a community of like-minded coaches and administrators who are ready, willing, and able to understand that player development and achieving mastery goals are far more important than winning at the youth level.

I do not believe in the win-at-all-costs mentality. Every player must be given the opportunity to succeed, learn and thrive as a student of the game. We use ice hockey as a vehicle to teach players how to handle adversity or failure while stressing the importance of teamwork, accountability and tenacity.

Notwithstanding the incredible skill required to play this great game, there are also valuable life lessons that can be taken from a hard-fought game or the acquisition of a new skill. In team sports, most athletes believe someone else will step up to the plate. I implore our boys and girls to be the margin of victory and employ the “want to” mentality as opposed to the “have to” mentality.

The goal of this program is to encourage coaches, parents, and players to conduct themselves with class, sportsmanship, respect for the game, and instill a lifelong love for the game. This is a huge undertaking for one individual, but together we can create a program unrivaled in the Chicagoland area.

Over the past 25 years, my love for the game has taken me to thousands of rinks around the world as a player, coach, scout, instructor, or spectator. I’ve realized, the most successful programs in the world are able to adapt with the ever-changing teaching methods while successfully implementing programs that spark creativity and passion.

As the hockey director of this new, emerging program, I am always looking for unique, fun and progressive ways of teaching core concepts or skills that haven’t changed in more than a century. My goal is to create a program that will offer excellence in hockey, social responsibility and creative expression both on and off the ice.

In closing, I am very excited to embark on this journey with all of the Chicago Horned Frogs players, parents and coaches. This is a very exciting time for youth hockey in Chicago adding to the excitement by creating a new program that will serve as an affordable, fun, safe, and enjoyable hockey experience designed to teach lifelong lessons through our development philosophy.
