Specialty Class Descriptions:

  • On-Ice Specialty Classes for Figure Skaters

    • ABC’s of Ice Skating (Low Level) 

    Tuesday: 5:15 – 5:45 pm                  $50                         199526

    This activity is intended for skaters in the Basic 1 – 6 levels, interested in skaters wanting to focus on basic skating skills, speed, form, presentation and style. Skaters will rotate through the different disciples of skating such as Synchronized Skating, Artistry in Motion, Theater on ice, Footwork, etc. Skaters will improve their basic skating skills such as edges, stroking and crossovers. Skaters will also work on gaining power during cardio drills, and perfecting their gliding maneuvers and presentation skills, throughout the different weeks.

    • XYZ’s of Ice Skating (High Level) (This class is included in the Bridge Program Curriculum) 

    Monday 8:30 – 9:30 pm*                  $95                     202110   

    This activity is for skaters Basic 5 and up, and will rotate between different disciplines or aspects of figure skating each week, and is created to introduce skaters to these fun features of skating! The classes will cycle through Synchronized Skating, Footwork, Gliding Maneuvers, Music Interpretation, Theater on Ice, etc. Skaters will get a glimpse into different skating options, while improving their basic skating skills, perfecting their gliding maneuvers and presentation skills, throughout the different weeks. *NOTE: This class may by moved up an hour, depending on ice schedules. 

    • Back to Basics (This class is included in the Bridge Program Curriculum) 

    Wednesday 8:00 – 8:45 pm                $95                202111        

    This activity is intended for skaters in the Basic 5 – Freeskate 3 levels, interested in skaters wanting to re-focus on basic skating skills, speed, form, presentation and style. Coaches will focus on improving skaters basic skating skills such as edges, stroking and crossovers, while encouraging power during cardio drills. Skaters will also work on perfecting entry/exits of spins and jumps, and positions in these elements.

  • Off-Ice Classes for Skaters

    • Off Ice Jump (This class is included in the Bridge Program Curriculum) 

    Wednesday: 5:00 – 5:45                 $50                       199677  

    This activity is designed for advanced skaters, who are in the Free Skate levels. It takes place OFF-ICE, in the Morgan Park Gymnastics Center, and will focus on proper position for jump rotation in the air, while also working on core and muscle strength to make taking off, and landing jumps safer and easier. They will use pieces in the gym to assist their learning such as the trampoline, the floor and the pit. Skaters need to be Basic 5 qualified in order to register for the class.

    • Fitness for Skaters (This class is included in the Bridge Program Curriculum) 

    Monday: 7:30 – 8:15 pm                 $50                        202113

    This activity will rotate between different kinds of fitness/training classes each week that are encouraged for figure skaters to be proficient in. It is geared towards training skaters to build up stamina, endurance and strength. The classes will cycle through different kinds of Yoga, Yogalaties, Circuit Training, Barre, and Ballet.

  • Adult / High Level

    • Ice Dance & Edge Control

    This activity loosely follows the Ice Dance track of the U.S. Figure Skating Learn to Skate USA program. The Ice Dance curriculum is designed for beginner to advanced skaters, to promote physical fitness and improve balance and coordination, while working on basic skating skills, edge quality and timing to music. This class has no level prerequisites, but it is suggested that Adults have passed Basic 3. Skaters may be under the age of 13 years old to enroll, but will need to be qualified by the Skating Director. Call facility for more information.

  • Bridge Program 

    • This series of classes is for skaters qualified for the Bridge Program (Basic 5 – Free Skate 3). The program will follow the following schedule:

    Bridge Programs are for skaters looking to Bridge the gap between recreational Learn-To-Skate (LTS), and starting to become a competitive skater. The MPSC Bridge Program is for skaters in Basic 5 through Free Skate 3, and is made up of multiple classes (on and off the ice) each week, for a reduced rate. Skaters in the Bridge Program will be enrolled in this structured “training program”, with the goal to create an MPSC Competitive Team. It will give skaters and parents the skills and information needed to take the next step into local competitions, maintain their love of the sport, and open their eyes to different options that the sport of Figure Skating has to offer. 

    In order to qualify your skater for the Bridge Program, please contact Skating Coordinator, Kathy Janik. Note: There is an informational session about the Bridge Program on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 8am.
